Forgot Your Combination Password Of Retractable Bed Cover? Here’s The Fix

To help you get it open quickly, we have a standard recovery method that works for all mechanical combination dial locks like the one on your retractable tonneau cover. This method does not require you to remember the password you may have set – it reads the current password directly from the internal mechanism.

Please follow these steps carefully. We recommend using a small flashlight or phone light to see better.

Step 1 – Find the “notch” on each dial

Set all dials to 0.

Next to the dials, you will see a small hole (about 23 mm wide).

Look straight into that hole. Start with the first dial (e.g., the leftmost one). Slowly turn that dial in the direction of increasing numbers (usually clockwise, e.g., 0 → 1 → 2 → …). Turn it very slowly – about one number per second.

While turning, watch inside the hole. At one specific number, you will see a clear notch (a small cutout or gap) appear in the metal disc.

Stop turning and write down the number that is aligned with that notch. (If the notch is exactly between two numbers, choose the lower one.)

Repeat this for each of the remaining dials (second, third, etc.) – always turning in the same direction and looking for its own notch.

Step 2 – Calculate the correct password

For each dial, take the number where you saw the notch, then add 5 to it, counting forward in the same direction (increasing numbers). The result is the correct digit for that dial.

If the sum is ≤ 9, use that number.

If the sum is > 9, wrap around cyclically (e.g., 8 + 5 = 13 → 13 – 10 = 3).

Example:

Notch at 2 → correct digit = 2 + 5 = 7

Notch at 8 → correct digit = 8 + 5 = 13 → 3

Write down all calculated digits in order – that is your current working password.

Step 3 – Unlock

Set all dials to the combination you just calculated, then pull the shackle or press the release button – the lock should open.

Important notes:

This procedure works even if you previously changed the password and forgot it.

Do not force any dial – if you feel resistance, you are turning too fast or in the wrong direction. If you cannot see the notch clearly, try adjusting the viewing angle or use better light.
